This course is a project of the Woman in Aviation International Chapter at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Worldwide. It is a self-paced Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), designed for learners 8-17 that celebrates Girls in Aviation Day! In the course, ERAU-WW provides learners with some of the best information related to aviation and aeronautics available. We hope you learn a lot, explore what we have to offer, and have loads of fun!

Objectives

 

  • Explain aviation terms in language applicable to an 8-17 year old audience.
  • Explore aspects of flight such as lift, gravity, thrust and drag.
  • Identify major parts of an airplane.
  • Describe the flight characteristics of a helicopter.
  • Discuss the goals of space exploration.

EDUCATION:

PhD in Business Administration from Northcentral University; MBA from Park University, Master of Science in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautics University, with specializations in unmanned systems and space studies from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a Bachelor of Science in Management from Park University.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Bettina has been working with Embry Riddle since 2014. She began as a Veteran’s Affairs Counselor for Worldwide and then transitioned to a full time faculty member for the College of Aeronautics in 2016. She is currently serving as the Curriculum Chair for the College of Aeronautics Undergraduate Studies department.

Prior to joining ERAU, Bettina served in the United States Marine Corps for 14 years. She worked as an avionics communication and navigation technician and supervisor for multiple aircraft platforms, including both rotary and fixed-wing. In addition to her job as a technician, Bettina also worked in operations and supervised the Mobile Maintenance Facility program. Bettina is currently serving as the Curriculum Chair for the Undergraduate Studies Department in the College of Aeronautics for Embry Riddle’s Worldwide campus. She has published research in aviation maintenance, human factors, organizational leadership, and unmanned systems. She has a wide array of knowledge and experience with human factors, aircraft maintenance and inspections, unmanned aircraft systems, and management.

EXPERIENCE:

Mr. Britton is currently serving as full-time faculty instructor for the College of Aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Roth serves the department as an instructor of the 9 week Aviation Maintenance Technology SkillBridge Program. This program helps our amazing United States military veterans transition their maintenance experience to an exciting career in aviation the aviation industry. Roth has been employed by the University for 5 years and also filled roles as an advisor and a project manager.

Prior to joining the University, Roth served 7 years in the United States Air Force. During that time he served as an aircraft inspector/maintainer, team leader, and maintenance manager. This experience was achieved in active flightline environments, inspection hangers, and heavy maintenance facilities. Roth’s aircraft experience includes the E-3, KC-135, B-1, B-52, and C-130 airframes.

Linda Weiland

Linda began her career in aviation in the United States Navy as an enlisted air traffic controller and retired as a highly decorated Lt. Commander in aircraft maintenance. After the Navy, she broadened her experience by working with commercial airlines and academic administration prior to becoming a faculty member.
